The ISSMGE

The ISSMGE is the pre-eminent professional body representing the interests and activities of Engineers, Academics and Contractors all over the world that actively participate in geotechnical engineering. The aim of the International Society is the promotion of international cooperation amongst engineers and scientists for the advancement of knowledge in the field of geotechnics and its engineering applications.

Member Societies

A Member Society is generally a National Society of geotechnical engineers, but may also represent two or more nearby countries. A country may not have more than one Member Society.

We always update the website with the most recent information received from Member Societies. So, please e-mail your member society, requesting they send their new contact details to the ISSMGE Secretariat.

Membership

Membership is always via one of our Member Societies. Please contact your national member society, or nearest member society, for further information.

An individual who is a member of ISSMGE via his/her own national Member Society, can enjoy the following benefits, amongst others :

  • be appointed Panellist, Discussion Leader, Invited Lecturer at Regional and International Conferences;
  • contribute to international co-operation by participating as a lecturer in the ISSMGE International Seminar (formerly known as Touring Lectures);
  • supporting young geotechnical engineers’ conferences by participating as a lecturer in the International and Regional Young Geotechnical Engineers Conferences;
  • participate in ISSMGE Conferences as a delegate or “person on stage” (subject to support from your member society).

Membership fees are set by the National Member societies. Please contact your Member Society for further information.

Please refer to the Membership list provided by your Member Society (on the website, under the name of your country).

Some member societies do not wish to post their membership lists. Please contact the society directly to confirm your membership status.

We post on the website the most recent membership lists received. It is possible that the list included on the site is now out of date. Please contact your Member Society to confirm your status.

The Bulletin is distributed to all Member Societies, who in turn distribute it to their Members. The Bulletin is also readily available from the website, under “Publications”

We are not advised of individuals’ contact details, only those of the secretariat. In the first instance, please contact the National Society of that person’s country, who will be able to advise if that person is a member, and should be able to put you in contact with him or her.

Corporate Associates

A Membership, Practitioner and Academic Committee (MPAC) has been formed to promote corporate participation, and one of their initiatives has been the introduction of corporate membership via the grade of Corporate Associate.

There are a number of benefits of becoming a Corporate Associate, including membership within the Corporate Associate’s Presidential Group, which has direct access to the ISSMGE President. For a full description of benefits please see Corporate Associates' Scheme.

To join as a Corporate Associate and for more information, please click on "Corporate Associates" in the menu across the top of the homepage.

Please refer to the Corporate Associate’s registration form, available here.

Conferences

You can add the information yourself to the ISSMGE conference database by clicking here. Please fill in as much detail as possible, including links, and e-mail addresses.

Although all efforts are made to keep ISSMGE conference database as up-to-date as possible, we strongly advise you contact the conference organisers directly. The contact details will be given in the entry on our database, or in their website.

Technical Committees

The mission of the technical committees is to provide a forum for active participation by the individual members of ISSMGE, and to promote the objectives, activities and results of the technical committees throughout the ISSMGE membership. The committees are a meeting arena for discussing, developing and applying specialist geotechnical knowledge related to the behaviour of geo-materials, geo-engineering and engineering for society.

All general TC members are nominated by Member Societies, who may nominate up to two (2) members to serve on each of the TCs as well as additional corresponding members. If you would like to be involved with a specific TC, please ask your Member Society to put your name forward.

The TCs have all been asked to keep their website information up-to-date. If you are in need of specific information, please contact the TC chair.
