An Overview of Geosynthetics and Their Major Applications

An Overview of Geosynthetics and Their Major Applications

Presenter: Dr. Robert Koerner
([email protected]) Title: An Overview of Geosynthetics and Their Major Applications
Date of recording: 22 January 2013
Duration: 01:33:38

This webinar begins with a very brief discussion of polymers and then presents the eight major classifications of geosynthetic materials. They are geotextiles, geogrids, geonets, geomembranes, geosynthetic clay liners, geopipe, geofoam and geocomposites. Some commentary on each is given. Design is mentioned but only insofar as the various approaches are concerned.
Then follows the four major application areas which form the major thrust of the webinar; namely, transportation/geotechnical, geoenvironmental, hydraulic, and private development works. Each of these four are subdivided into specific applications, e.g., filters, wall reinforcement, landfill liners and covers, waterproofing of dams and canals, tank farms, aquaculture, etc., etc.
The webinar concludes with information on geosynthetic organizations, publications, and opinions on the current status and a summary.
